The Art Gallery of the Ottawa Valley will be a system of interconnected galleries and programming spaces embedded into already-existing public infrastructure across the Ottawa Valley region, including rural communities. The idea is that no one should have to drive more than 30 minutes to access public art. The AGOV will include indoor galleries, outdoor spaces and dedicated programming areas.
Inspired by the ways that trees and other more-than-human beings engage with their environments, the AGOV uses a tree thinking approach to create a robust and sustainable public art gallery that is a natural fit and grows organically within its environment. The AGOV will be rooted in land and community; connected across the watersheds of the Ottawa Valley; nurturing for participants, partners, and communities; with time to grow in an organic and meaningful way.
Since February 2024 Ottawa Valley Community Arts has been working on the business plan for what will become the Art Gallery of the Ottawa Valley (AGOV). The planning process has been extensive including trips to many municipalities, Algonquin and Indigenous artist meetings, an artists and community survey and research of the arts infrastructure in the surrounding areas. Resulting in a 39 page plan establishing a clear path forward for the AGOV.
